Predestined to be saved

By Nick Bibile

If God saved us before the foundations of the world, why do we need to be saved again?

The Bible does not say, we were saved before the foundation of the world, but it says we were chosen before the foundation of the world, to live a life of holiness.

Ephesians 1:4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love.

he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,  - Ephesians 1:5

Why did God choose us? We will talk more on this subject tomorrow. But in short he chose us according to his will not our will.

Who were chosen before the foundation of the world? The true believers. But we were not true believers, we were sinners.

Absolutely right,  we were born with sin,  under the wrath of God, yet we were chosen but not saved, we were predestined to be saved, yet we were not saved.

We were dead to God and we were just like any other unbeliever enjoyed the pleasure of this world, but according to God’s timing, although we were dead to spiritual things, God made us alive, when he made us alive, we understood the gospel, we understood that we have sinned against God, we repented and asked forgiveness from God and we wanted to follow God.

Ephesians 2:1-2 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience

Ephesians 2:3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

The above scriptures are the bad news of our sinful nature, then Ephesians 2:4 begins with BUT, meaning there is going to be a change, change doesn’t come from us, but God is going to do something. Initiator of salvation is not us but God. Let’s see.

Ephesians 2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,

Instead of judgment, God is going to have mercy on us, because of his great love for us. Remember, we were predestined to be saved. Now comes the action from God, see the next Scripture.

Ephesians 2:5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.

Dead sinners were made alive!  Not because of anything that we did to deserve salvation but because of God’s mercy and grace.

We were chosen and predestined before the foundation of the world, but salvation came to us on this earth. All the glory and the praise goes to God Almighty in Christ Jesus!

Now beloved those who were predestined are saved and they will live a consecrated holy life unto the Lord, bearing fruits, as productive Christians. Not living like unbelievers.

Jonah learned good theology in the belly of a big fish, when he said,”salvation belongs to the Lord.” (Jonah 2:9)
