The Fall. The great deception

By Nick Bibile

Genesis 3

God created Adam in his image. Adam was made without sin, holy and perfect. He was naked in the presence of God and did not have any sin consciousness. Adam was in his probation period, when God gave Adam a law, a commandment.

Ge 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Being a perfect holy man he had the capacity to obey God's law. This was a covenant that God made with Adam, where his probation period would end and that he can gain eternal life through the obedience to the above commandment. Obedience was required in this covenant, and eternal life is promised by works of obedience.

The enemy came to the woman with a question, a question of doubt when the enemy asked the woman, “Hath God said, you shall not eat every tree of the garden?”

See the deception of the question.  God did not say you can eat from every tree of the garden. Here the woman defended the truth, the word of God.  But when the woman said, “But of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God hath said, you shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it lest ye die.”

Serpent said, “Ye, shall not surely die.” This is an outright lie. The enemy Satan challenged God’s words to the woman, like a cunning evil advocate he made sure that God is lying and he is telling the truth. Here Satan is challenging God’s authority. Then he tempted them, this is the first temptation, when he said, the day you eat of it, your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

She and her husband fell for the bait. Here we see the entrance of sin to mankind.

There is a desire that man wants to be like god, man knows more than God. God is too ancient. We are living in a modern hi-tech world where there is no room for an ancient god. Today we have abandoned the absolute truth of the Bible. When you abandon God and the truth of the Bible, then man makes the rules. Every man decides what is right and what is wrong in his own perspective. This is called moral relativism.  Moral relativism says, “You decide what is right for you and I will decide what is right for me.” The Bible is not the final authority.

Today the newscaster becomes the words of truth. Media  is becoming the final authority. People are looking for the media to tell what is true and wrong. Our society is being influenced by TV rather than the church. TELEVISION, the most devastating brainwashing device ever unleashed upon humanity.  The TV is the instrument for the destruction of the soul. Television controls 90% of the average person's thinking and behavior.

Satan is using the same method of attacking the word of God today, as we see God’s authority is challenged, mocked, ridiculed, the younger generation is saying the Bible is too old for our generation, there is deception in schools, deception in the media, deception in politics, deception in homes, deception of false religions and even deception comes from some of the pulpits as Satan can masquerade into an angel. Lord Jesus said to the Jews. “When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it,”

Satan always attacks on your weakness. Our weakness can be very deceptive, remember if we think we are strong, that’s where we are weak. What do you imagine was John Knox’s last temptation upon his dying bed? Perhaps there never was a man who more fully understood the great doctrine that “by grace are ye saved,” than John Knox did. He thundered it out from the pulpit; and if you had questioned him upon the subject, he would have declared it to you boldly and bravely, denying with all his might the Popish doctrine of salvation through human merit. But, will you believe it, that old enemy of souls attacked John Knox with self-righteousness when he lay a-dying? He came to him, and said, “How bravely you have served your Master, John! You have never quailed before the face of man; you have faced kings and princes, and yet you have never trembled; such a man as you are may walk into the kingdom of heaven on your own footing, and wear your own garment at the wedding of the Most High;” and sharp and terrible was the struggle which John Knox had with the enemy of souls over that temptation.

Don’t think you are strong, without Christ without the grace of God we can’t do nothing.
