David's thirst for the water in Bethlehem

By Nick Bibile

When David arrived in Bethlehem he saw a well and he said the following.

1 Chronicles 11:17 And David had a craving and said, “Oh that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!”

When I saw this scripture, immediately I thought how our Lord was born in Bethlehem and our Lord Jesus is the living water. Luke mentions that Jesus is not only genealogically connected to King David, but also born in Bethlehem. Bethlehem is called the city of David.

David craved and thirsty for water in Bethlehem, Jesus the living water, son of David was born in Bethlehem.  David was after God’s own heart, spiritually David had a craving for the water in Bethlehem, craving for the coming Messiah, who will come from the body of David, Christ was also called the son of David as he came from the line of David.  Jesus confronted the woman at the well in John 4 and showed her he is the Christ and the living water.

Jesus pointed to himself as the truth, the living bread and the living water.

John 7:37-38  On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’

Are you longing and craving for material things, worldly things? As many, even the Christians are tempted by Satan for the things of this world that would satisfy our flesh, we are constantly looking to feed this sinful flesh with material things that will please our flesh. We are all guilty!

But we need to wake up from the deception of the enemy and crucify the desires of this flesh and crave for God's spiritual things that profit our soul.
