Church of Christ and its name.

By Nick Bibile

Church of Christ very proudly claims their church is not a denomination. Their church is the only church that is found in the Bible. They arrogantly proclaim, go and find a Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran or any other church if they are in the Bible, no, only the Church of Christ is in the Bible, therefore they are the only true church.

Like all the rest of the false religions, Church of Christ would like to get a piece of the truth, they go to Matthew 16:18

Matthew 16:18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

The Church of Christ insists there is only one church and that church is Church of Christ and they back it up with Romans 16:16

Romans 16:16  Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.

False churches takes scriptures out of context, if you read the whole chapter of Romans, apostle Paul is greeting all the Christians in that day where they had churches at their homes, then he sums it up in Romans 16:16, “Greet one another with a holy kiss, all the churches of Christ greet you.”

Church of Christ took this portion of scripture (Romans 16:16) to establish their church in order to deceive people. They caused a division between them and all the rest of the Christian denominations, saying they are the only true church.

My beloved, please read the rest of the verses.

Romans 16:17-18  I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. 18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive

Does a name mean anything? Here is a quotation from Martin Luther the Protestant reformer.

“I pray you to leave my name alone, and call not yourselves Lutherans, but Christians. Who is Luther? My doctrine is not mine. I have not been crucified for anyone. St Paul would not that any should call themselves of Paul, nor of Peter, but of Christ? Cease, my dear friends, to cling to these party names, and distinctions: away with them all, and let us call ourselves only Christians, after Him from whom our doctrine comes.”

Here is a quotation from Charles Spurgeon, the famous Baptist preacher.

“I look forward with pleasure to the day when there will not be a Baptist living. I hope the Baptist name will soon perish, but let Christ’s name last forever. ”

The only name that really means anything is the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 4:12  And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men[a] by which we must be saved.”

Don’t be fooled and deceived by Church of Christ taking scripture out of context for their benefit to deceive many.

God has divided the body into different true denominations, we differ in non salvational issues, but united in one body when it comes to salvational issues.

The Greek word for church is ecclesia,  is not a name of a building but believers gathered together to worship God, believers, true Christians are called the church.  Although we have different denominations, we are baptized to Christ as one body.

There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism. We are members of one body (Ephesians 5:30)

1 Corinthians 12:13
For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves[a] or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

No Church can provide salvation.

It doesn't matter what denomination that you belong to, church denominations cannot save anyone, only the blood of the Lamb, Jesus saves, there will come a time where all true Christians will be gathered in heaven praising our beloved Savior Jesus Christ in one accord.

Revelation 7:9-10
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
