The work of redemption – Christ the mediator.  Questions.

 

  1. When did Christ enter into his office as a mediator? At the fall of man.
  2. Explain the position of the mediator? As soon as ever man fell, Christ the eternal Son of God clothed himself with the mediatorial character, and therein presented himself before the Father. He immediately stepped in between an holy, infinite, offended Majesty, and offending mankind.
  3. Who was the hurting party when man sinned? Father God.
  4. Does the Bible say the Father is angry with the sinners and the sinners are enemies of God? If yes, where? Psalm 7:11 Romans 5:10, Romans 8:7
  5. Did God the Father have anything to do with mankind directly? He would no more have any immediate concern with this world of mankind, that had apostatized from and rebelled against him. He would henceforward have no concern with man, but only through a mediator, either in teaching men, or in governing or bestowing any benefits on them.
  6. When we read of God’s appearing after the fall, from time to time, in some visible form or outward symbol of his presence, was it the Father who appeared? No, it is the second person of the Trinity.
  7. Give some scripture in proof. John 1:18.
  8. How did Christ as the mediator communicated mankind? Word.
  9. What does Word means? The expression of God to man, communication. Christ is God-Man.

Who else was subjected to Christ in his medatorial office?The angels from that time were committed to him, to be subject to him in his mediatorial office, to be ministering spirits to him in this affair and accordingly were so from this time forward, as is manifest by the scripture history. We have accounts from time to time of their acting as ministering spirits in the affairs of the church of Christ.
  2. When was the gospel first revealed to mankind? Give scripture. Genesis 3:15.

  7. How did Abel and people like Enoch can go to heaven, as they are born sinners? They went to heaven by faith.
  8. How does faith comes? Ro 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
  9. Did they go to heaven without a mediator? No.
  10. Did Enoch know the gospel? Yes. Jude 1:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints.
  11. How was the Old Testament saints were saved? By repentance and trusting God, by the gospel.  Heb 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
  12. Where do you find the covenant of grace? Genesis 3:15, the dawning of the gospel.
  13. Who was the person where the covenant of grace was revealed and confirmed to more than any other person who lived before? Abraham.
  14. Give some confirmation of the covenant of grace that was given to Abraham.
