Passive Obedience is that Christ’s suffering without resistance. Willing sacrifice his body.

Thursday 6 pm to 8 pm Jesus celebrates Passover meal with his disciples.

Luke 22:15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

Exposed the traitor.

Washed the disciples’ feet. (John 13)

9 pm – Comforted the disciples. John 14-16 providing another helper, Holy Spirit.

John 17 High Priestly prayer. John 17:1-5 Jesus prays for himself. 6-19 Jesus prays for the disciples. 20-26 Jesus prays for the future believers.

10 pm -12 midnight – Crossing the Brook Kidron, prayer at the garden of Gethsemane. (John 18:1, Luke 22:44)

Friday 12 am – 3 am Betrayal. Jesus was arrested. Jesus was taken to the high priest Annas. (John 18:13)

3 am – 6 am Jesus was taken to Caiaphas another high priest. (Matthew 26:57) Peter denies the Lord three times. (Matthew 26:69-74)

Sunrise.  Judas hangs himself. Jesus was taken to Pilate.  (Matthew 27:1-14)

7 am – Jesus was taken from Pilate to Herod (Luke 23:6-12) Herod mocked Jesus. Herod and Pilate were enemies now they became friends.   Herod to Pilate - People wanted Barabbas to be released and Jesus to be crucified. (Luke 18-24)

9 am – Pilate cannot find any fault at Jesus. Jesus was scourged. (Flogged) (John 19)Soldiers mocked him, stripped him, spit on him, and made a crown of thorns.  Note - Romans typically used the flogging to hasten the victim’s death. The whip, made of leather throngs of various lengths, was interwoven with sharp, jagged pieces of bone and lead. With every lash, these bits of bone and lead ripped Jesus’ back to shreds. (Isaiah 50:6 prophesied in the Old Testament I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting.

10 am – the announcement of crucifixion. (Matthew 27:31) Now the preparation for the Passover was going on. (John 19:14) Jesus is the Passover Lamb. (1 Corinthians 5:7) Amazing how God ordained the Passover in Exodus 12 in the Old Testament and Jesus fulfilled as the Passover lamb on the exact day.

11 am – Jesus carried the cross about 80-100 lbs to Golgotha (John 19:17) Jesus was crucified. Note Jesus final meal was day before between 6-8 pm, now for 15 hours no food, no food at all.

12 noon – The sun hid its face, there was darkness from 12 to 3 pm. (Matthew 27:45)

God prophesied in the Old Testament Amos 8:9-10, that the sun will go down at noon, the earth will be darken on that day, the feast will turn into mourning and lamentation, mourning for an only son, a bitter day.

Curtain of the temple was torn in two and the earth shook, rocks split. (Matthew 27:51)

3 pm – Jesus died. His face was totally unrecognizable, due to flogging.  He was tormented a very slow agonizing death on the cross from 11 am – 3 pm. 4 hours! Isaiah 52:14 - As many were astonished at you— his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of the children of mankind

John 19:30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Crucifixion was invented by the Romans. In the Old Testament the death penalty was stoning to death. However in Psalm 22:16 speaks on piercing hands and feet (crucifixion)

Christ laid down his life for the sake of his friends; he made complete satisfaction to offended justice of God, presenting himself as a vicarious sacrifice, in our place. He took the place of another, which is us, he became our substitute, we are reconciled to God, and we are accepted in the Beloved.

It is the man who sinned, but it is God who found the ransom. It is the man who is going down to the pit of hell, but it is God who finds a ransom. His only begotten Son came from the very bosom of the Father. God gave up himself to be punished, bleed and die for unworthy mortal men like us. Oh, beloved, this is wonderful grace.
