The Sin of  Superstition

By Nick Bibile

Without Faith it is impossible to please God – (Hebrews 11:6)

The mind of man is far more open to believe in falsehood, errors, and superstitions, than the written word of God.

Following are some Filipino Superstitions

Sweeping the floor at night will drive away incoming blessings.

Combing your hair at night will bring bad luck.

Singing while cooking will make you single for the rest of your life.

Don’t sleep with your hair wet; otherwise, you’ll lose your mind

When you bite your tongue, someone is thinking of you.

Don’t trim your fingernails and toenails at night because it will bring you bad luck.

Avoid getting a wound or injury on Good Friday because it will never heal.

Crossing paths with a black cat is a bad omen.

Bringing home food served at a wake or a funeral will bring bad luck.

If you’re coming from a funeral, take a detour if you must, just DON’T go home immediately. If you do, the dead will follow you

What is superstition?

Most Filipinos believe in bad superstition,  which is to say, there are other forces that can bring you bad curses. They believe in ghosts or spirits that controls good or bad. These superstitious rituals of traditions that have passed down from generations to generations and have become part of the Filipino culture and even when you become a Christian it’s not easy to get rid of these superstitious beliefs .

Superstition is a sin, why? It violates the second commandment. Second commandment has to do with idolatry, anything we worship, adore believe other than the word of God is idolatry. Bowing down and believe in superstition is a sin.

There are two spiritual super powers, God and Satan. God has already revealed his will to us through his word. The devil’s main goal is to make you wonder away from the living God. The devil puts a fear in peoples heart, if you don’t believe in superstition something bad is going to happen to you, and through fear people follow superstition.  Devil puts a feeling of fear in your heart. The devil and his demons are working 24X7 to deceive you and the opposite of faith is feelings, many of you walk by feelings rather than faith in God’s word.

Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Feelings)

Numbers 13:1, 26-31,33 14:30

1 Samuel 17:4-7 ; 32-37, 42-50

Without Faith it is impossible to please God – (Hebrews 11:6)

2 Cor 5:17

Ephesians 4:17 Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds.

1 John 4:4  Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
