The Fear of the Lord. (Part 3)

The Guidance and the Direction of the Fear of the Lord is His Word.

Ps 34:11  Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

The word of God is the lamp and the light to our feet, it manifest his will to our life, it is the word of God that opens our minds and souls to the true fear of God.

Ps 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

The fear of the Lord here is reference to the Word of God, to the law of God, his judgments. It is the word of God that teach us to fear of God.  Gives us instructions how to worship and serve God and to have godly fear.  The word of God is clean, it is pure and perfect and endures forever. It is a fearful word. Why? There is truth in it, it is the absolute truth.

Mt 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

No man can justify the word of God, what is in the word is going to happen, no matter how you argue against the word of God, you are the creator the dust of the earth, God is God the Almighty majestic God. Scriptures cannot be broken.

Ps 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

When you do not read the word of God, then your flesh is in control, you are being fed by the appetites of the world. But when you hear the word of God it comes like a sword cuts deep into your soul, uproot the deep filth of the world, awakens the soul. There is mighty power in his word.

Ps 19:7  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

The object of our fear is the written word of God.  Moses told the Israelites to teach the commandments of the Lord to their children, so they will love God and fear God.

De 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

The Father speaks of his Son that he shall be quick understanding in the fear of the lord. He may shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth. The rod is the fear of Gods word. It is the rule and the director of our fear. Without its guidance we will not know how to fear the Lord.

Isa 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

Ezra the priest when he returned from captivity, Babylon to Jerusalem, in the presence of the people he confessed the sins they have committed as they have violated the commandments of God, showed them the fear of God.

Ezr 9:6 And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.

Ezr 9:15 O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.

Ezr 10:1 Now when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people wept very sore.

The written word of God is given to us to read. It is written to be read and not to be kept in a shelf with full of dust. It is given to be read during our entire life.

De 17:19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them.

Josiah was only eight years old when he became king.  When he heard the word of God he tore his clothes in repentance. He took the word of God seriously as he saw the wrath of God that is going to come as they have sinned against God. He burned all the images ground them to ashes and followed the commandment of God as written in the word. The word of God enlightened him and showed him the fear of the Lord.

2Ki 22:1  Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.

2Ki 22:11  And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

2Ki 22:13 Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning.

2Ch 34:33 And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.

Isa 66:5 Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

Ex 9:20 He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses:

21 And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.

22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.

23 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.

24 So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field.

Those who have no fear to God or his word.

We are living in an adulterous wicked generation.  People have no fear of God at all. Instead they are ruled and directed by the word of God they are ruled by their passions and feelings. The flesh and this world is in control. They have no respect to God or his word. Some open their Bible only on Sunday when they are in church.

Spurgeon said, "There is dust enough on some of your Bibles to write damnation with your fingers."

Jer 8:8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.

9 The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

Some have already made up their mind that they will not obey the word of God.

Jer 44:16 As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.

Why is it that they reject the word of God? Why is it that they will not obey? Because the word of God is nothing to them. They have no fear at all to the word of God.  They will make jokes and mock at the word of God and his servants are discriminated.

2Ch 36:15 And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:

16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

Joh 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Re 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Growing in the Fear of God.

Eze 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:

20 That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

The fear of the Lord cannot come from the old heart, it comes only from the new heart, a regenerated heart. God put grace into these new hearts. This is an honest good heart that will produce godly behavior, godly conversation, godly repentance and a love the Lord.

Jer 32:38 And they shall be my people, and I will be their God:

39 And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:

40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.

There is much love for the Lord, understands the mercy of God to a terrible sinner and fears the Lord.

Ps 130:3 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

4 But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

There is a fear of Gods judgments.

Ps 119:120 My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments.

When they hear in the word of God there is a lake of fire prepared for the unbelievers the godly will fear of the lake of fire, they will tremble while the ungodly will  live fearlessly before God, living in sexual immorality, living in immorality, living in passionately devoted to this world.

The greatness of God and a fear for sin.

Joseph saw how great God was when he was tempted to sin by Potiphars wife.

Ge 42:18 And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God.

Do not be prideful and high minded.

Ro 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear.

The prophets said, thus says the Lord. This is a message from the commander of the universe, the King of the Universe, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. When we hear his word and read his word we will tremble before his awesome majesty.

When Habakkuk heard the word of the Lord, his belly trembled.

Hab 3:16  When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.

If someone ask you; what do you do, who are you and where you come from? What will be your answer?

Jon 1:8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?

9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.

He gave the highest answer means the most noble and the true answer without fear for worldly men but in fear of God.  God is to be honored, feared in this wicked world. Show them the light of Christ to the unbelievers.  The glory of God and his blessedness will last forever while the honor of men and their pride will be buried in the dust of the earth.
