The importance of exegesis preaching.

Jeremiah 29:11 English Standard Version (ESV)

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Many are taking this scripture for their personal fleshly reasons, maybe for my diet, maybe in my work, maybe for my dreams on this earth.  In exegesis preaching first we need to see to whom is the author speaking, full context and the background.  King Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Judah and took some of the Israelites to Babylon.  They will be in Babylon for 70 years and after the 70 years, God will bring them back to their homeland.  Read in context Jeremiah 29:1-14  This prophecy was fulfilled in Ezra, Nehemiah when they were able to come back to their homeland and walls of Jerusalem was built and the temple was rebuilt and people for so excited and joyful , this was the fulfillment of Jeremiah 29:11 not to be taken for your personal use.  But God’s promise to the  exiles who were in Babylon.   See Nehemiah 8:1-12
