Humiliation of Christ

By Nick Bibile

Php 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Christ was born in a very low condition.

God became man to be a servant.

Born in a stable to poor parents. Not as an earthly king in a palace clothed with purple and crowned with gold.

Made under the law.

The law is made from the superior to the lesser. Came from high to low, heaven to man. But Christ being divine did not have to obey the law, yet he voluntary obeyed the law. He was made under the law.

Ga 4:4 But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

5 To redeem them those were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

He came to do the will of the Father.

Joh 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

His sufferings.

Jesus was not rich; he was poor on this earth.

Lu 9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

He was rejected by men, the religious leaders of that day persecuted him, tried to stone and kill him. He was mocked ridiculed and beaten by men before the crucifixion. He submitted to the agonies of the crucifixion.

He bore his peoples load of sins, even the Father whose eyes are pure cannot look at evil (Hab 1:13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil,) hid his face for the first time from his beloved Son.

Mt 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

He became the sinner treated as the sinner.

2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

His death and burial.

Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Humbling from the highest of heaven to the lowest of the earth. The most humbling sight is death.

Joh 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, it is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
