How do you know there is God?

There are many religions in the world and each religion has a concept of God or gods. The Hindus believe in millions of gods. Theravada Buddhism the orthodox doctrine of Buddhism does not obey a supreme God, neither submits to Hindu gods as gods submit to Buddha; they strictly obey the doctrines of Buddha. Mahayana Buddhism believes in Buddha’s teachings, also worship the Hindu Gods. Islam believes in one God, who is Allah, he is an impersonal God. Judaism believes in one God, they believe only in the Old Testament of the Bible but will not believe the New Testament or the teachings of Jesus. The Mormons of the latter day’s saints of Jesus Christ believe in many gods and you too can become a god. True protestant Christianity believe in one living God, he is the God of the Bible, both the Old Testament and the New Testament. I am not going to join Roman Catholicism as their belief in God is the same as the Protestants but there is a great distance when it comes to doctrine. My answer to the question, “How do you know there is God?” will be answered from logical and protestant perspective.

Time

Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Time proves the existence of God. Absence of time would be eternal. In time, there is a beginning and an end. There are divisions in time. If time is eternal, there will be infinite days, which will never end. We live according to time. There is a beginning and an end. Look at our time, there are the seconds, the minutes, the hours, the days, the weeks, the months and the years.

Genesis 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.

Ge 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

Ge 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Everything is organized to the very second; there is a beginning of a new day and end of that day, beginning of a new week and end of that week, beginning of a new month and end of that month, beginning of a new year and the end of a year. Everything runs precisely to the very second, this cannot happen, and it is impossible for time to be in existent without a supreme infinitely knowledgeable God, who is all-powerful and all knowing.

The Beauty of the Universe.

In the olden days, many thought the earth was flat. Then around 150 AD, Claudius Ptolemy, a Greek geographer, mathematician, and astronomer, compiled an encyclopedia of the ancient world from the archives of a legendary library in Alexandria, Egypt. His eight-volume Geography included extensive maps of the known world, all based on a curved globe.

Christopher Columbus' voyage in 1492 confirmed that the Earth was round. Magellan's crew proved the fact definitively by circling the globe on a three-year voyage from 1519-1522.

However, around 800 years B.C the God in his word said the following:

Isaiah 40:21 Do you not know? Do you not hear?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22 It is he who sits above the circle of the earth,
and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers;

You may be seated at your home in your living room or in your bedroom reading this article; did you know while you are reading this article the earth is rotating at a very high speed on its axis? If you live somewhere at the equator the speed of the earth is approximately 1037.5646 miles per hour (1669.8 km/h). At the North Pole (90 degrees north) and South Pole (90 degrees south), the speed is effectively zero since that spot rotates once in 24 hours, a very, very slow speed. The mid-latitudes of the U.S. and Europe speed along at 700 to 900 mph (1125 to 1450 kph).

Everything what man creates comes to an end, even the brand new car you will buy after so many thousands of miles; it will one day come to an end, like a slow death. Sometime you worry when your car gets old, as you may not know what time it will stop on the road. But do you worry of the earth stop spinning? Of course not, do you feel it speed, not at all, but how precisely and accurately it rotates on its axis. Your car need maintenance, you need to change oil, transmission oil, tires etc., It will not run every single day without stopping, anything you buy need a rest, but what about the earth, its rotating at a high speed without maintenance without stopping every single day. You sleep well while the earth is spinning at a great high speed. How accurately the earth spins on its axis. How precisely it turns on its axis. Who controls the spin, who can do it so precisely? The answer is God.

Job 26:7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

Intelligence behind the Beautiful Precise Order

If you went on vacation and forgot to close your windows, during your vacation you heard that there was hurricane in your area. You half way abandoned your vacation and hurried back home. You found your entire home in disorder as the hurricane had an effect on your home. There is severe damaged to your home, everything inside is all scattered and some destroyed. How can you put things back together in an orderly fashion?

Only an intelligent being can build your house and put everything in order.

Genesis 1:2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

Order requires wisdom and intelligence.

Colossians 2: 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Imagine the airplane, car, microwave, computer which all of them were created by an intelligent being, they are composed in an orderly fashion. Do you know Boeing 747 jetliner is made of 6 million parts and they all doesn’t fly in different directions. There is perfect order and there is intelligence behind it. In your own home there is order, your office there is order, when you go to the street there is order, when you arrive in a hotel there is order as I said, order requires wisdom and intelligence.

God created the heavens and the earth and there is order. He who created the heavens and the earth is infinitely powerful and has infinite wisdom and intelligence where our limited minds cannot comprehend. But there are many who will not acknowledge it. Not to believe in God who created the heavens and the earth is like a hurricane going through a warehouse and out of it comes a beautiful Boeing 747 aircraft.

You don’t have to go to school to know that there is God; you don’t need to be educated to know that there is God. There creation of God is loudly proclaimed when we look to the skies, the sun, the moon and the stars and all around the earth.

Psalm 8:3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place.

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

Previously we saw the speed of the earth on its rotation. At the same time the Earth is also moving around the Sun at the speed of about 67,000 Miles per Hour! In our Milky Way Galaxy there are numerous asteroids, comets, and meteorites. It is estimated that a billion of meteors enters our atmosphere everyday. Just like an airplane is guided in the sky by a Pilot who guides the earth? The speed of the earth is about 1000 miles per hour on it’s axis and at the same time it’s moving around the sun at the speed of 67,000 miles per hour, there are numerous asteroids, comets and meteorites on earth’s way, who is guiding the earth so the earth for years and years without any foreign damaged? God Almighty is the ruler of the earth and he is the governor of the universe. Who is holding the universe together in order? God Almighty.

Colossians 1:16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Let me tell you a true story.

Sir Isaac Newton, a British scientist, once had a skilled mechanic who made him a miniature replica of the solar system, with balls representing the planets geared together by cogs and belts so as to move in harmony when cranked. Later, Newton was visited by a scientist friend who did not believe in God.

One day as Newton sat reading in his study with his mechanism on a large table near him, his infidel friend stepped in. Scientist that he was, he recognized at a glance what was before him. Stepping up to it, he slowly turned the crank, and with undisguised admiration watched the heavenly bodies all move in their relative speed in their orbits. Standing off a few feet he exclaimed, "My, what an exquisite thing this is! Who made it?"

Without looking up from his book Newton answered, "Nobody!" Quickly turning to Newton, the infidel said, "Evidently you did not understand my question. I ask who made it?" Looking up, Newton solemnly assured him that nobody made it. But the astonished infidel replied with some heat, "You must think I am a fool! Of course someone made it, and he is a genius, and I would like to know who made it."

Laying his book aside, Newton arose and laid a hand on his friend's shoulder. "This thing is but a puny imitation of a much grander system, whose laws you know, and I am not able to convince you that this mere toy is without designer and maker; yet you profess to believe that the great original from which the design is taken has come into being without either designer or maker! Now tell me by what sort of reasoning do you reach such an incongruous conclusion?"

If everything in the universe is arranged by chance and the creation of the earth is arranged by chance and the speed of the earth rotating in it’s axis and the speed of the earth moving around the earth not hitting any foreign objects is by chance, it’s like you are going at a speed of 50 miles per hour in your car but you are driving blindfolded, you drive perfectly around the bends and in busy streets without hitting anyone or without an accident. This can never happen.

It is absurd to say everything is created and governed by chance because the things that come by chance are uncertain and they are ill arranged out of order. The external evidence clearly shows the existence of God.

Internal Evidence – Human Body is God’s Masterpiece

The internal evidence clearly shows the existence of God. Look at your own body. You have a brain to think, the power of the brain is amazing. The eyes, the nose, the ears, the mouth, hands and feet they all work together in harmony. Then we have internal organs which works inside of our body like a perfect machine 24X7 in perfect unity and harmony until we die. How wonderfully we are made. Human body is God’s masterpiece.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well’ (Psalm 139:14).

Machines created by man need lubrication for them to function properly. We have bones and cartilage, joints which allows us to bend to run, walk and jump. These joints must be lubricated and our body manufactures this lubrication for us to move. If you go through a heat wave of over 100F your body temperature will not rise, it will still stay at 98.6F (37C) If you are in a country and during winter there is freezing weather and the temperature drops to 20F but your body still have the temperature of 98.6F, how can this be? Because our bodies have an automatic heating and cooling control system. My friend what you see is a marvelous machine in perfect order created by an infinite powerful intelligent being – God Almighty. Your brain is the most complex computer that is connected to your central nervous system. You can take each part of your organs, like the liver, the kidney, heart and see how marvelously they function.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

We take vitamins and mineral daily, look at the contents of these, the minerals include, iron, copper, zinc etc., They all come from the earth. God made us from the dust of the earth. Man is the crown of God’s creation.

Conscience

Man is a moral being. When someone commits a crime the first they do is to run and hide. They stay away from the authorities. Many times we have violated the laws of the country, we have gone over the speed limit, gone through red lights and there were no policeman to give us a ticket. But next time we see a policeman we feel guilty. People feel guilty when they go to a courtroom and see the judge. There is something in us called conscience, ability to know good and bad. God has written his laws in every person’s heart.

Romans 2:15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them.

There are some people who are very wicked and commits crimes and they behave boldly, but if you could look only inside of them, then you see their minds are restless. They may not feel their sins during the time of prosperity and good health as they have lost all sense of sin but it cannot be said that they lost their conscience entirely, because their conscience bear witness and their thoughts accusing them of the bad behavior.

What is the conclusion, the evidence is too high that God exists.

God is the Master Builder, he laid the foundation of the earth absolutely perfect. The world and this universe displays the power of God, God laid the foundations of the universe who can defy his omnipotent arm.

Psalm 14:1 1. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

Will God reveal himself to Man?

As we saw from the beginning there are many religions who believe in God and gods. Only in Christianity we see how God revealed himself to man. If you create something would you be close the thing that you created? Certainly. If you have children and they are yours, will you be close to them? Yes. In the same way God of Christianity is not a God who is impersonal like in Islam religion but the God of Christianity revealed to man in the name of Jesus.

God sent prophets and God used these prophets from the very beginning to proclaim his word, his will, all these are written in God’s word, the Bible. The prophets proclaimed the coming of the future Messiah or Christ, means a deliverer. Deliverer from our sins. There were over 300 prophecies and Jesus fulfilled all of these prophecies. His birth, the place where he will be born, how God will come into this world, his mission, his death for our sins, his bodily resurrection were all foretold hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus.
