not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. (Jesus Christ - Mark 12:27)
Definition of God
According to Webster Encyclopedic Dictionary (1969)
“A being conceived of a possessing divine power, and therefore to be
propitiated by sacrifice, worship, and the like; a divinity; the Supreme Being;
Jehovah; the eternal Spirit, the Creator, and the Sovereign of the universe.
There are some religions believe in many gods, some
worship the nature, some worship the sun, the moon as gods, some worship all
kinds of images and call them gods, but Jesus said there is a God of the
living. God who is alive, active, infinitely powerful, he is the only wise and
true living God who created the universe and all things; he is the almighty God
who governs the universe. This supreme God is infinitely powerful. He is not
subject to anyone or dependent on any other authority, or power. He is the
supreme authority. He is not equal to any other or inferior to any, he is the
head of all power and the fountain of all authority and he is not under
obligation to any other and he is able to do what he pleases for his pleasure.
He is the Creator God and all his creation from very highest to the very lowest
is dependent upon him and he is not depended upon anyone.
Isaiah 40:14 With whom took he counsel, and who
instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him
knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?
God is infinitely holy
This true living God is infinite in understanding and
power and he is perfect in all his ways, he is infinitely holy. He has no
defect, no sin, if there is any defect in him then he cannot be the infinite
supreme living God. It is impossible for wickedness or any defect to be found
in the infinitely powerful God. He is infinitely powerful in wisdom and
knowledge. He is infinitely above understanding as we are finite beings and our
knowledge is very limited to his infinite wisdom and knowledge.
You are aware that little children ask good questions
and we wrestle how to answer them so they can understand. Sometimes it is
difficult to answer, as they keep on asking “Why” As their little minds cannot
fully comprehend too much knowledge. In the same way, we are infants compared
to God’s supreme knowledge and power.
Job 11: 7-8 “Can you find out the deep things of
God? Can you find out the limit of the Almighty? It is higher than
heaven what can you do?”
Romans
11: 33-34 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How
unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For who has
known the mind of the Lord.
Existence of God
The existence of God is indubitable and how can we
deny this clearest truth. God has condescended to reveal himself in the Holy
Scriptures of the Bible and in nature. The Bible opens to us the mystery of
creation and reveals the character of God. We can learn of him in humility with
and trembling. We see the fingerprints of God in creation and his creation is
visible for all mankind to see.
Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the
darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Time proves the existence of God. Absence of time
would be eternal. In time, there is a beginning and an end. There are divisions
in time. If time is eternal, there will be an infinite day, which will never
end. We live according to time. There is a beginning and an end. Look at our
time, there are the seconds, the minutes, the hours, the days, the weeks, the
months and the years.
Genesis 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the
firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for
signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.
Genesis 1:16 And God made two great lights; the
greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made
the stars also.
Genesis 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the
night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
Time is organized to the very second; organization
requires wisdom and knowledge. In time,
there is a beginning of a new day and end of that day, beginning of a new week
and end of that week, beginning of a new month and end of that month, beginning
of a new year and the end of a year. Everything runs precisely to the very
second, this cannot happen, and it is impossible for time to be in existent
without the supreme God, who is all-powerful and all knowing.
The Beauty of the Universe.
In the olden days, many thought the earth was flat.
Then around 150 AD, Claudius Ptolemy, a Greek geographer, mathematician, and
astronomer, compiled an encyclopedia of the ancient world from the archives of
a legendary library in Alexandria, Egypt. His eight-volume Geography included
extensive maps of the known world, all based on a curved globe.
Christopher Columbus' voyage in 1492 confirmed that
the Earth was round. Magellan's crew proved the fact definitively by circling
the globe on a three-year voyage from 1519-1522.
However, around 700 years B.C God in his word said
the following:
Isaiah 40:21 Do you not know? Do you not hear?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22 It is he who sits above the circle of the earth,
and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers.
Which other religious book said that the earth was
round in shape? But God who made the earth have proclaimed in his word the
earth is round in shape.
You may be seated at your home in your living room or
in your bedroom reading this article; did you know while you are reading this
article the earth is rotating at a very high speed on its axis? If you live
somewhere at the equator the speed of the earth is approximately 1037.5646
miles per hour (1669.8 km/h). At the North Pole (90 degrees north) and South
Pole (90 degrees south), the speed is effectively zero since that spot rotates
once in 24 hours, a very, very slow speed. The mid-latitudes of the U.S. and
Europe speed along at 700 to 900 mph (1125 to 1450 kph).
Everything what man creates comes to an end, even the
brand new car you will buy after so many thousands of miles; it will one day
come to an end, like a slow death. Sometime you worry when your car gets old,
as you may not know what time it will stop on the road due to age. However, do you worry of the earth stop
spinning? Of course not, do you feel it speed? Not at all, but how precisely
and accurately it rotates on its axis. Your car need maintenance, you need to
change oil, transmission oil, tires etc., It will not run every single day
without stopping, anything you buy need a rest, but what about the earth, its
rotating at a high speed without maintenance without stopping every single day.
You sleep well while the earth is spinning at a great high speed. How
accurately the earth spins on its axis. How precisely it turns on its axis. Who
controls the spin? Who does it so precisely? The answer an infinite supreme
being – the Living God.
Job 26:7 He stretches out the north over the void and
hangs the earth on nothing.
Intelligence behind the Beautiful
Precise Order
If you went on vacation and during your vacation you
heard that there was a hurricane in your area. You may want to abandon your
vacation and hurry back home. You found your entire home in disorder as the
hurricane had terrible effect on your home. There is great damage to your home,
everything inside is all scattered and some destroyed. How can you put things
back together in an orderly fashion?
Common sense and logic say, only an intelligent being
can build your house and put everything in order.
Genesis 1:2 The earth was without form and void,
and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering
over the face of the waters.
Order requires wisdom and
intelligence.
Colossians 2: 3 in whom are hidden all the
treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Imagine the airplane, car, microwave, computer which
all of them were created by an intelligent being, they are composed in an orderly
fashion. Do you know Boeing 747 jetliner is made of 6 million parts and they
all do not fly in different directions. There is perfect order and there is
intelligence behind it. In your own home there is order, your office there is
order, when you go to the street there is order, when you arrive in a hotel
there is order as I said, order requires wisdom and intelligence.
God created the heavens and the earth and there is
precise order. He who created the heavens and the earth is infinitely powerful
and has infinite wisdom and intelligence where our limited minds cannot
comprehend. However, many will not acknowledge it. Not to believe in God who
created the heavens and the earth is like a hurricane going through a warehouse
and out of it comes a beautiful Boeing 747 aircraft.
You do not have to go to school to know that there is
God; you do not need to be educated to know that there is God. The creation of
God loudly proclaim daily of him, when we look to the skies, the sun, the moon
and the stars and all around the earth and the orderly fashion they are being
made the great design of his mighty works are clearly seen. When we see a
design there is a Designer, look at the design of the universe.
Psalm 8:3 When I look at your heavens, the work
of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place.
Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
Previously we saw the speed of the earth on its
rotation. At the same time, the Earth is also moving around the Sun at the
speed of about 67,000 Miles per Hour! A gymnast can perform a perfect balance
while the earth is spinning around 1000 miles per hour and moving around the
sun at 67,000 miles per hour! In our Milky
Way Galaxy, there are numerous asteroids, comets, and meteorites. It is
estimated that a billion of meteors enters our atmosphere everyday, yet the
earth moving at a tremendous speed without hitting the meteors. Just like an airplane is guided in the sky
by a Pilot, who guides the earth? The speed of the earth is about 1000 miles
per hour on its axis and at the same time it’s moving around the sun at the
speed of 67,000 miles per hour, there are numerous asteroids, comets and
meteorites on earth’s way, who is guiding the earth without hitting any of
these foreign objects? Can you drive your car blindfolded in a crowded street
without hitting anyone? Certainly not, you will hit someone within seconds, and
then who guides the earth around the sun at a speed of 67,000 miles per hour
not hitting anyone of the stars or foreign objects? Just imagine if there was
no supreme being guiding the earth at such a speed, we are not sure what second
we will crash. God Almighty is the ruler of the earth and he is the governor of
the universe. Who is holding the universe together in order? Who is holding
even the smallest particles? The Living God of the Universe.
Atom is the smallest particle. Atoms are made out of
protons, electrons and neutrons. Protons have a positive electrical charge,
electrons have a negative electrical charge and neutrons have no electrical
charge. The central part of the atom is called the nucleus. Protons and the
neutrons cluster together in the nucleus, then the electrons orbit the nucleus.
What do you see here? There is an order in the smallest particles, which our
naked eye cannot see. There has to be an infinite power who controls the atoms
together. We find infinite wisdom in the smallest particle. The electrons
cannot orbit the nucleus without power, yes one single atom cannot move without
his infinite power. The Supreme God spoke the word and his word is his infinite
power in creating all things.
Colossians 1:16 For by him all things were
created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for
him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Laws of the Universe
There are laws of the universe, rotation of the earth
and orbiting around the sun. Then there is gravity. These laws are perfect and
there cannot be perfect laws if not for a perfect lawmaker. God is the perfect
lawmaker.
Job 38:
33 Do you know the ordinances of the
heavens? Can you establish their rule on the earth?
Jeremiah
31:35 Thus says the Lord, who gives
the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for
light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the Lord of hosts is his name.
Jeremiah 33: 25 Thus says the Lord: If
I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed order of
heaven and earth
Let
me tell you a true story.
Sir
Isaac Newton, a British scientist, once had a skilled mechanic who made him a
miniature replica of the solar system, with balls representing the planets
geared together by cogs and belts so as to move in harmony when cranked. Later,
Newton was visited by a scientist friend who did not believe in God.
One day
as Newton sat reading in his study with his mechanism on a large table near
him, his infidel friend stepped in. Scientist that he was, he recognized at a
glance what was before him. Stepping up to it, he slowly turned the crank, and
with undisguised admiration watched the heavenly bodies all move in their
relative speed in their orbits. Standing off a few feet he exclaimed, "My,
what an exquisite thing this is! Who made it?"
Without
looking up from his book Newton answered, "Nobody!" Quickly turning
to Newton, the infidel said, "Evidently you did not understand my
question. I ask who made it?" Looking up, Newton solemnly assured him that
nobody made it. However, the astonished infidel replied with some heat, “You
must think I am a fool of course someone made it, and he is a genius, and I
would like to know who made it."
Laying
his book aside, Newton arose and laid a hand on his friend's shoulder.
"This thing is but a puny imitation of a much grander system, whose laws
you know, and I am not able to convince you that this mere toy is without
designer and maker; yet you profess to believe that the great original from
which the design is taken has come into being without either designer or maker!
Now tell me by what sort of reasoning do you reach such an incongruous
conclusion?"
If
everything in the universe is arranged by chance and the creation of the earth
is arranged by chance and the speed of the earth rotating in it’s axis and the
speed of the earth moving around the earth not hitting any foreign objects is
by chance, it’s like you are going at a speed of 50 miles per hour in your car
but you are driving blindfolded, you drive perfectly around the bends and in
busy streets without hitting anyone or without an accident. This can never
happen.
It
is absurd to say everything is created and governed by chance because the
things that come by chance are uncertain and they are ill arranged out of
order. The external evidence clearly shows the existence of God. Look how we inhale Oxygen and exhale carbon
dioxide, the plants inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen, how everything is
arranged in precise order.
Animals
display the creation of God
You
can study animal behavior and it is truly amazing and we can write books on
them. Who guides the birds in their migration?
Job 39:
26 Is it by your understanding that
the hawk soars and spreads his wings toward the south?
Job
12:7 But
ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they
will tell you;
8 or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea
will declare to you.
9 Who among all these does not know that the
hand of the Lord has done this?
10 In his hand are the life of every living
thing and the breath of all mankind.
Jeremiah
8:7 Even
the stork in the heavens knows her times, and the turtledove, swallow, and
crane keep the time of their coming, but my
people know not the rules of the Lord.
Internal Evidence – Human Body is
God’s Crown of Creation.
The internal evidence clearly shows the existence of
God. Look at your own body. You have a brain to think, the power of the brain
is amazing. The eyes, the nose, the ears, the mouth, hands and feet they all
work together in harmony. Then we have internal organs, which work, inside of
our body like a perfect machine 24X7 in perfect unity and harmony until we die.
How wonderfully we are made. Human body is God’s masterpiece. The more we
discover our own human body it truly amazes us. What about our emotions,
laughter, joy, passion, sorrow, this is truly amazing.
Psalm 139: 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully
and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your work
Machines created by man need lubrication for them to
function properly. We have bones and cartilage, joints that allows us to bend
to run, walk and jump. These joints must be lubricated and our body
manufactures the lubrication for us to move. If you go through a heat wave of
over 100F your body temperature will not rise, it will still stay at 98.6F
(37C) If you are in a country and during winter there is freezing weather and
the temperature drops to 20F but your body still regulates it’s temperature of
98.6F, how can this be? Because our bodies have, an automatic heating and a
cooling control system. My friend what you see is a marvelous machine in
perfect order created by an infinite powerful intelligent being – God Almighty.
Your brain is the most complex computer that is connected to your central
nervous system. You can take each part of your organs, like the liver, the
kidney, and heart and write volumes of books of their amazing functions.
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust
of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man
became a living soul.
We take vitamins and mineral daily, look at the
contents of these, the minerals include, iron, copper, zinc etc., they all come
from the earth. God made us from the dust of the earth. Man is the crown of
God’s creation.
The evidence is too high that God
exists.
God is the Master Builder; he laid the foundation of
the earth absolutely perfect. The world and this universe displays the power of
God, God laid the foundations of the universe who can defy his omnipotent arm.
Do not quarrel with an Infinite
Powerful God
Will little children quarrel with you just because
they do not understand everything? No, they trust you even though they do not
understand fully.
Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds
were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of
things which do appear.
It is not
wise to quarrel with an infinite Supreme God, just because you cannot
comprehend everything. You will never ever comprehend everything as we are of
the earth and finite beings. Evidence is overwhelming.
Psalm 14:1 1. The fool hath said in his heart, there
is no God.
Romans 9: 20 But who are you, O man, to answer
back to God?
Conclusion
Bible, God’s word is the final authority and the only
book speaks of God’s creation, creation of man, sin, character of God,
redemption and the future.
Webster defines the Bible "unique"
as: (1) "One and only; single, sole"; (2) "Different from
all others; having no other equal."
It was written over a 1500-year
span, during 60 generations, written in three continents, Africa, Asia and
Europe, three different languages, Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek written by 40
authors from every walk of life including kings, peasants, philosophers,
fishermen, poets, statesmen, scholars, cupbearers, and others. Written in
times of war and peace, written in different moods, joy and sorrow, written on
hundreds of controversial subjects like, creation, origin of man, nature of
God, sin and redemption, yet there is unity in the Bible.
Let us get to the point. The
Bible was written over a 1500 year span but lets get 10 people living today,
not from three different continents but in one country, one city, not people
from different languages but who speak one language, not people who have
different occupation but one occupation give them one controversial subject, do
you think they will be united in what they say? Certainly not.
Many tried to burn the Bible, ban the Bible yet still it is the number one seller. Voltaire the French atheist who lived in 1700’s predicted that Christianity would be swept from existence and pass into history within 100 years of his time. Fifty years of his death, the Geneva Bible society used his printing press and his house to produce thousands and thousands of Bibles.
1 Peter 1:24 for “All flesh is
like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and
the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
The books of the scriptures are called canonical as they contain the standard, the rule of faith. If you reject the Bible there is no other book can substitute the Bible. If any man can provide a book that has better evidences and documentation more than the Bible then we should read that book but if you cannot provide then we need to understand the Bible becomes the rule of faith in moral life.
Prophecy
Prophecy is foretelling what is going to happen in the future. Is there any religion of their prophecy being fulfilled? Do you know of any religion that gives the source of sin, the original sin, speaks of Creation that speaks who man is, his destiny. Do you know of any religion that speaks of future things that is going to happen?
Isa 45:1 Thus says the Lord to his
anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped, to subdue nations before
him and to loose the belts of kings,
to open doors before him that gates may not be closed.
Here God calls Cyrus by
name, yet Cyrus was not even born. Cyrus was born in B.C. 599 and became the
king of Persia in B.C 559. Here is God is speaking through the prophet Isaiah
163 years before Cyrus was even born telling his name and even mentioning that
Cyrus was going to be used by God, During this time Daniel and many of the
children of Israel were living in Babylon as they were taken captives before.
The God of the Bible never lies as
he is infinitely holy and righteous.
Titus 1:2, God who never
lies. Heb 6:18 it is impossible for God to lie.
God of the Bible is the
living God. He decreed all things and in our time, they are revealed. Jesus
fulfilled hundreds of prophecies, meaning predictions of the prophets recorded
in the Old Testament. God prophesied
that Christ would come from the seed of Abraham, from the tribe of Judah, from
the line of David. He prophesied in the Old Testament. God spoke through
prophet Micah 750 –700 years before Christ of the birthplace of Christ.
Micah 5:2 But you, O
Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from
you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.
About 700 to 740 B.C Isaiah the
prophet prophesied that Christ would be born of a virgin.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord
himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son,
and shall call his name Immanuel. (Immanuel means God with us)
Also God spoke through Isaiah and
prophesied the rejection of the Jews. “He is despised and rejected of men; a
man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from
him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” (Isaiah 53:3)
Also, Isaiah prophesied that they
struck and spit on him. (Isaiah 53:7) Jesus was hated without a cause (Isaiah
50:6)
God prophesied that Jesus would be betrayed of a close friend
happened to be Judas.
Christ’s crucifixion was
prophesied in the Old Testament, even though in the Old Testament times the
punishment was stoning to death. Crucifixion was invented by the Romans. Here
in the book of Psalms speaking of a future event as it says they pierced my
hands and feet, a clear prediction of the crucifixion given about thousand
years before Christ was born.
Psalm 22:14 I am poured out like
water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in
the midst of my bowels.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth
to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
The assembly of the wicked has
inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. (Psalms 22:16)
Surely he hath borne our griefs,
and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and
afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our
iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we
are healed. (Isaiah 53:4-5)
Christ’s death, Crucifixion,
resurrection and ascension prophesied in the Old Testament.
About 515 Before Christ, Zechariah
prophesied Christ would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver as he said, “And I
said unto them, if ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So
they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.” (Zec 11:12)
(Zechraiah 11:2) Prophesied when he was accused he was silent.
(Psalm 69:4). Prophesied that he was mocked and insulted. (Psalms 22:6-8)
Prophesied he was given gall and vinegar.
(Psalms 69:21) Prophesied soldiers casting lots for his garment. (Psalms 22:18)
Prophesied not a born was broken. (Psalms 34:20) Prophesied to be buried with
the rich. (Isaiah 53:9) Prophesied his resurrection (Psalms 16:10) prophesied
his ascension. (Psalm 68:18)
He is the almighty Creator God as
God said through Isaiah the prophet declaring the end from the beginning, and
from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand,
and I will do all my pleasure. (Isaiah 46:10)
The center of the Bible is Christ Jesus.
Psalms 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I
come: in the volume of the book it is written of me. (The ministry of Jesus was
prophesied thousands of years before Jesus birth)
Joh 5:39 Search the scriptures;
for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of
me.
Why it is that Christ is the
center? Because of redemption. Only the first two chapters of the Bible speak
on the creation and the balance is all about redemption, meaning speaking of
delivering the sinner from sin. It took God to speak his word in creation
as he spoke and it was created out of nothing but in redemption, it took the
blood sacrifice of Jesus.
All of the
apostles except John were martyred for their belief. The early Christians were
tortured, crucified, beheaded, burned alive and some were thrown alive to be
eaten by lions. They never denied their faith, as they cannot lie what they
have seen. The resurrection changed the year of our calendar as it
changed the course of history from B.C. (Before Christ) to A.D. (the Latin Anno
Domini--the year of our Lord).
Only a living
savior can save a sinner. There was a British tourist visiting some parts of
Africa and he saw a man reading a Bible in his own language, next to him was a
pot of hot water boiling. The British tourist made fun out of the man reading
the Bible. The man said, “If not for this book you will be in this boiling
water now.” He was a cannibal but saved by the grace of God by reading the
Bible.
ALL FOR THE GLORY OF GOD!
