Church History

The church was founded in the Roman Empire. Julius Caesar was called the Lord of the Roman world, Jesus was not born yet. Jesus was born during Augustus Caesar and Jesus was crucified during Tiberius Caesar.

Persecution of the Christians began during Caligula’s time, and it accelerated during Nero’s time. The book of Acts closes when Paul in prison in Rome around A.D 63.  2 Timothy 2:9 for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound!

Apostle Paul’s last words;

2 Timothy 4:6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith

2 Tim 4:18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

2 Tim 4:22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you

Paul was beheaded during Nero’s time.

Nero wanted to build a new Rome and he started a fire 64 A.D and blamed the Christians for the fire, as a result Christians were persecuted. The Bible doesn’t mention Nero’s persecution of the Christians but although it happen during the end of the New Testament times. Christians were arrested and put to death in most cruel ways. Some were crucified, some were tied in skins of animals and thrown into the stadium to be eaten by wild animals, for the entertainment of the people. Some were tied to poles and pitch poured over their bodies and their live bodies were burnt in Nero’s gardens, while in midnight Nero drove in his chariot naked enjoying himself, while Christians were in terrible agony.

Peter was crucified during this time, during the persecution Peter wrote;

1 Peter 4:12-13  Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.  But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.

History tells us many supposed to be Christians denied Christ during persecution so they didn’t have to go a cruel death. We know that they were not the sheep but goats. As of today, it’s very easy for everyone to claim a Christian but only during persecution we will know the true Christian verses the fake Christian.

Note: Just like the Old Testament, the New Testament is not arranged according to chronological order.
