We are all going to
stand before the judgment seat of God. We are not going to give an account of
others to God nor they are not going to give an account of us to God, but we
personally each one of us will give an account to God. At this time we have no
time to judge others and say, let me say how God is going to judge so and so,
but we need to worry about ourselves. The Greek word for account here is logov
logos log'-os. We all know the meaning of logos is the Word, in Greek, the
meaning of the word can be different according to the context, the word logos
here is account.
Obviously, the word
account is an accounting word. In accounting, we see the credits and debits.
Debits are the sins you have committed and the credit is the works that you
have done for God. Many religious people believe if my good works for the Lord
will weigh more than my sins, then my credit is higher than the debit and God I
can be accepted in the sight of God. This is absolutely false.
Sin is a debt to God.
We are not sinners because we sin; we are sinners by inheritance as we all came
from the loins of Adam.
Ro 5:12 Wherefore, as
by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed
upon all men, for that all have sinned:
What does the
accountants do? They see if we owe anything, to see if we have to pay a debt.
Every sin we commit is a debt to God. This time it is not the Internal Revenue
Service who is going to audit you, but God is going to audit you, and see how
much you owe him.
As we have sinned against God in thought, word and action we owe God a debt that we cannot pay. Why? God is infinitely holy and perfect, when we sinned against God we have not sinned against a man, but against the majestic infinitely holy God. There is a difference in offending a poor beggar on the road or the against the most influential richest man in the world, but what about God? As he is infinitely holy and perfect the sins we have committed requires a perfect payment that we owe to God that we cannot pay.
"If you, O LORD, kept a record of our sins, O LORD who could stand?" (Psalm 130:3)
1Sa
The first Adam ruined us, but the last Adam was Christ Jesus, he saved us from our horrible state. Christ was perfect and holy and he paid the price that we owed to God, and as Christ was perfect and infinitely holy without a blemish of sin God accepted the payment paid by Christ, this payment was not paid by money, but by being obedient to God fulfilling all the law and by his precious blood sacrifice. When the sinner realizes he is bankrupt before the Lord, and embrace the righteousness of Christ. We are saved from the wrath of God, through Christs righteousness and not our righteousness.
Does it make you
tremble that you have to give an account to God? We all know that our account
is bankrupt and we owe a debt to God where we cannot pay, we know that we do
not rely on my account of righteousness but on the account of the righteousness
of Christ, and we all know in his righteousness we are not going to be guilty
on that day of judgment. But the knowing all these, then if you continually sin
without taking care of salvation, you are not saved. The true Christian who is
saved hates sin.
Php 2:12 Wherefore,
my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much
more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
We need to humble
ourselves in the Lord for giving us salvation. As he gave salvation when we did
not deserve. Now once we received salvation we protect ourselves against the
evil, sin and temptation that is around us, we need to protect our souls, working
out the salvation that is already given to us. This word signifies with true
pain. The hypocrites will behave pretty good in front of the Christians in the
church and can fool many people, but when they are with their worldly friends
and alone, they will go back to their old nature of sin. Paul is saying here
our obedience to God is not only in front of the other Christians but also in
their absence. Paul is speaking our own salvation, personal salvation and not
to judge others as they will be accountable to God. The true Christian fears
and trembles before Gods majesty and have a hatred for sin.
1Jo 3:9 Whosoever is
born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot
sin, because he is born of God.
If we know that it is
the righteousness of Christ, that is imputed to us, and then still continue in
sin, and continue in confessing of prayer then as soon as the prayer is done,
go back in our sin
Re 20:12 And I saw
the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and
another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged
out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
God is going to judge
according to these books, and these books could be the book of Gods
omniscience, the infinite knowledge of knowing everything. (Hebrews 4:13; Mat
10:29-30;) Then the book of the sinners conscience, the inward right and wrong.
(Romans 2:15-16) Then the other book could be the word of God. (John 12:48)
Ec 3:17 I said in
mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time
there for every purpose and for every work.
1Co 4:5 Therefore
judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to
light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the
hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
We put up gates,
doors, curtains, even tinted windows in cars so other people cannot see us. We
do not want anyone to disturb our privacy. People love to sin closed doors.
They love the sin of pleasures in secret. But the day will be coming where God
will expose all what you have done in secret openly. The secret and hidden sins
of men will be exposed, also your hidden evil thoughts will be exposed, your
hidden secret motives will be exposed.
Heb 9:27 And as it is
appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Re 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
God has a book where all the true Christians names are written before the foundation of the world. The ones that say they believe Christ but they do not hate their sins, they do not follow Christ, the ones that have no time for the Lord, are truly not for Christ but against Christ.
Ps 69:28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.
Mt 12:36 But I say
unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment.
The Jews called this
"light conversation", and "vain discourse", unprofitable
talk, which, though it does not directly hurt God or man, yet is of no use to
speaker or hearer. God takes an account of every word we say even when we do
not take notice. There are still people who call them selves Christians but use
the name of the Lord in vain. Jesus There are many Catholics who say, Jesus,
Mary and Joseph There are many who will use bad words, dirty words, vulgar
language, indecent words. God notes all what you say.
Fruitless and
unconstructive words talk is displeasing to the Lord. If you watch on TV
unconstructive and fruitless talk, the sitcoms and other foolish TV shows and
movies, God is taking notice of it. God wants us to be profitable servants; the
proof of a profitable servant is not how nicely he behaves in the site of other
Christians, or of his beautiful prayers but how they live in their daily life.
Profitable servants
will act like their Master.
Mt 18:23 Therefore is
the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. (Read Mat
18:23-35) Forgiveness is the
Matthew Henry in his
commentary writes, When we pray to God as our Father in heaven, we are taught
to ask for forgiveness of sins, as we forgive our debtors. We must from our hearts
forgive. We do not forgive our offending brother aright, nor acceptably, if we
do not forgive from the heart, for that is it that God looks at. No malice must
be harbored or ill to any person. The danger of not forgiving is that your
heavenly Father will do the same to you.
Lu 16:2 And he called
him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou
mayest be no longer steward.
God is going to take
an account how you managed the money he gave you. He is the one who gave the
job, the husband, wife, children and the money. The stewardship will be
dismissed when you die. How did you use Gods money? Did you use it for
necessacities or for your pleasure, did you use the Lords money to fill your
belly and to enjoy yourself or to the glory of God?
Lu 16:13 No servant
can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or
else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and
mammon.
14 And the Pharisees
also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.
We see the wicked the
unbelievers are prospering in wealth, health and living a long life. It looks
like everything is going well with them and the true Christians are going
through extreme hardship, much pain and hardship. God seems to be very silent,
but he will not be when the Day of Judgment comes. The unbelievers laughing
will be turned into mourning, and all their wealth and good health cannot save
them on the Judgment day.
There
are many who have heard the word of God yet have no fear of God, that are not
afraid to sin against him, consider seriously what you have heard concerning
the day of judgment. Although these things be now future and unseen, yet they
are real and certain. God is invisible to you, and his wrath is invisible. But
at the Day of Judgment, you yourselves shall see him with your bodily eyes. You
shall not then be able to keep out of his sight, or to avoid seeing him. Rev.
1:7, Behold he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also
which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. You
shall see him coming in the clouds of heaven. Your ears shall hear the last
trumpet, that dreadful sound, the voice of the archangel. Your eyes shall see
your judge sitting on the throne; they shall see those manifestations of wrath,
which there will be in his countenance. Your ears shall hear him pronounce the
sentence.
Seriously
consider, if you live in the ways of sin, having a lose and careless life, but
you fear the policeman, the IRS and the earthly judge, when you see the true
Judge of the Universe descending and there is guilt written all over you,
although you did not have any fear now what kind of dear will you have then?
What account will you be able to give, when he ask of you, why you led such a
sinful, wicked life? What will you be able to say, you heard the word of God
but yet you lived in your secret sins, as all your hidden sins are exposed in
front of you? Although now you be so careless of your conduct and life, you are
not serious of sin as you are making it light, yet you must give an account of
every sin that you commit, of every idle word that you speak, and of every
sinful thought of your hearts, you must give an account of it.
The
Judge will be your supreme judge. You
will have no opportunity to appeal from his decision. If you are not satisfied
with the earthly judge you can appeal to another judge, but this is no earthly
judge but the divine Judge and there will be no appealing.
On
that day, the divine Judge will not mix mercy with justice. The time for mercy
to be shown to sinners will then be past when you lived on earth. Christ was
merciful when you lived your life upon the earth, but when you die Christ will
then appear in another character as he will lay aside his attributes of grace
and mercy and will clothe himself with justice and vengeance. The punishment
threatened to ungodly men is without any
pity. See Eze. 5:11, Neither shall mine eye spare; neither will I have any
pity. Here all judgments have a mixture of mercy. But the wrath of God will be
poured out upon the wicked without mixture, and vengeance will have its full
weight.
Luke
12:2, 3, For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid,
that shall not be known. Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness, shall
be heard in the light: and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets,
shall be proclaimed upon the house-tops.
By your fleshly
reasonings you can compromise and deceive yourselves but you cannot deceive the
Judge.
